About
Hello, my name is Amanda. I returned to the Portland metro area after completing my education and training as a cardiac sonographer. In many ways, my personal journey with thalassemia and its connection to the medical field inspired me to pursue a career in healthcare. After learning about OSWAT’s mission, I wanted to share my experiences living with thalassemia to help educate others, raise awareness, and be a part of the community. I have been receiving chronic blood transfusions since the age of two to manage my condition. There have been times when I felt limited in what I could achieve due to this blood disorder, and moments when the physical and emotional demands of managing my health felt overwhelming. However, through the support of my family, friends, and healthcare providers, I have learned to navigate these challenges with confidence and resilience. Thalassemia has taught me to know myself better than anyone. As a first-generation Asian American, I have always been motivated to make my parents proud and honor the sacrifices they have made. I hope to use my experiences and professional background to create a positive and lasting impact within the foundation and the broader blood disorder community.
